February 2024

February 2024

Happy February! It’s a new month,  and I’m trying to keep up with a monthly newsletter.  The goal is the first Monday of each month. Here's a  report of what happened in January.

First,  congratulations to all of you who had students participate in District 16- FVA Solo and Ensemble.  I’m sure your students felt prosperous and empowered by the ability to share their voices and grow as musicians.  What we ask students to do is hard; the proof is that millions of people are not doing it.  Celebrate every win for them and for yourselves as well.  You made extra time for this event; you booked busses, sought out music, accompanists, or tracks, went to the event, and then explained scores to your students afterward.

In January, we:

  • Presented and participated in FMEA

  • Attended the ACDA Children and Community Youth Choir Retreat in Nashville

  • Worked with Miami Senior High to help students prepare their  solos and duets for Solo and Ensembles

  • Finalized the students who would participate in S&E from Florida Christian School, reviewing their music and making sure they were ready for  S&E.

  • Conducted the Lake County Honor Choir and took the students on a musical tour of The  Americas.

  • Attended Solo and Ensembles with FCS.

  • I also work at  Coral Gables Congregational Church, leading their children’s choir. I’m growing in my elementary methods repertoire, which I haven’t used since teaching 20+ years ago!

Looking ahead-  Choral MPA Season

This month, I’m sharing with you a lesson plan format I’ve been using in my rehearsals, and I LOVE it! If you feel like it is beneficial, use it.  If you don’t think it’ll help, feel free to let me know what you think is missing.

So, I’m sharing the background information for Muie Rendera.

I’m still available to work with your choirs:

  1. Choral workshop for you and your students.

    1. This month, I will be visiting Highland Oaks Middle School, Hialeah Gardens Senior High, and Robert Morgan Senior High.

  2. Mentorship/ Observation Consultations if you feel like you need more individualized support to continue to grow as a teacher.

Extra Stuff:

  • If you’re looking for a T-shirt company- I’d love to promote Word or Deed.  They make other things, including natural soaps and original designs for shirts and bags.  Help support a local organization.
