Looking at April…
This year has flown by so much. March was almost a reprieve from the busy musical-making experiences that February presented. March did hold a concert about Dreams for the University Singers- my unauditioned choir at the university. And it made me think of my own dreams to work at a university and how they’ve come true. March also presented a break in the schools, giving me a short breather.
April, on the other hand, promises to make up for any downtime March offered. Four concerts, three different ensembles, two recitals, and an Earth Day service with the children’s choir. I’m fascinated by the gamut of musical ensembles I currently direct:
1) University Singers- University students and adult community members coming together to make music.
2) The Children’s Voice Chorus- Middle School/High School students from different parts of Miami and Florida City.
3) The Children’s Choirs- Agape and Cherubs at a local church in Coral Gables, grades K-5.
This has pros- I am learning things with one group that transfer to another (amazingly enough). This has cons- the amount of music in my head and putting it in my body, gestures, etc.- it’s a lot. I am growing musically in a way I never thought possible. I grew as a teacher in my first career; now, I am growing as a musician and loving this.
Something I am inspired by now: The Art of Gathering- there will probably be a post soon.
